These are supposed to be the same cookie. Guess what happened this time.
I was once again doubling a recipe. I had what I thought were two 1/2 cup portions of butter in the fridge. I tossed them in the mixer and continued on with the recipe. When I was finished I thought they looked a little darker than usual, and the dough was a bit stiffer.
No red flags until I baked them, so this recipe calls for two trays that you flip half way through baking. For some reason the cookies on the bottom pan were burnt, and they were also way smaller and darker than usual.
So I started thinking what could I have possibly done to get this result. Then I remembered that I had just grabbed the butter and not done a check to see that they were actually 1/2 cup each. My guess is that one or both were just under.
